World polycarbonate production and market

GE Plastics is the largest polycarbonate manufacturer, with production capacity accounting for 45% of the world's total production capacity. Bayer ranks second, accounting for 25%, and Dow ranks third, accounting for 12%. These three companies have production facilities in the United States, Western Europe and Asia. In the 1980s, the output of polycarbonate increased rapidly, from 230000 tons in 1981 to 545000 tons in 1988, with an average annual growth rate of 13%. In the 1980s, especially the experimental machines and instruments were developing in the direction of high technology and complexity. From the end of the century to the early 1990s, due to the recession of the world economy, the annual average growth rate of polycarbonate output from 1986 to 1996 was 9.1%, which was still far higher than the average growth rate of other chemical products. In 1996, the output of polycarbonate in the world was about 1.14 million tons, with an average operating rate of 84%. Polycarbonate can be divided into a series of grades according to its functional characteristics, such as general grade, transparent grade, medical and food grade, flame retardant, heat resistant, weather resistant, lubricating, glass fiber reinforced, inorganic filling, electromagnetic shielding, antistatic and other grades and composite grades. Each grade can be further subdivided into more specific brands according to the resin melt index or the composition of mixed modified additives. Some large manufacturers can properly file away part 1 along the axis of the damping needle with a file, providing products of dozens of grades and hundreds of brands. The application and development of polycarbonate is to develop in the direction of high compounding, high function, specialization and serialization. At present, it has launched a variety of products, such as optical discs, automobiles, office equipment, boxes, packaging, medicine, lighting, film and so on. The largest markets for polycarbonate applications abroad are electronic/electrical (including computers, office equipment and optical discs), transparent sheets and sheets, and the automotive industry
