How to effectively reduce the cost of books in prepress design

in the printing work, we should reasonably arrange the plate making, printing process and select paper materials according to the production capacity of the printing factory, so as to reduce the cost of books. Every book needs to be designed by designers. The designer must consider the content, nature, total amount of graphics and text, and audience. The cost of books is an important factor in the book market competition. Here is how to reduce the cost of books from the perspective of prepress design

1. Paper opening

if the size selection is unreasonable, the corner cemented carbide bending test material will increase, and the effective utilization area of the paper will be relatively reduced. Books with more short lines, such as horizontally arranged poetry collections, use 32 folios, and there are many blanks in their cuts and staples, which is more expensive to use paper. If you use a long and narrow 36 folio, you can save paper. If the format is too small, there will be more loss of fold and smooth edge materials. In order to facilitate printing and packaging, try not to use or use less irregular folios, which can reduce the cost of printing and packaging

2. Paper materials

paper materials account for a large proportion of the cost of books, accounting for more than 40%. Therefore, reasonable selection of paper materials is an important aspect of reducing the cost of books

① for ordinary books, such as learning materials, literary and artistic books, 52g/m2 (hereinafter referred to as 52g) letterpress paper is enough for paperback, and 60g or 70g offset paper can be used for hardcover

② songs and children's books can be used in 6 monochrome and tested in this environment. 0g paper and 80g offset paper can be used for color

③ textbooks generally use 49 ~ 60g letterpress paper; 52g relief paper is used for paperback of reference books, 40g dictionary paper can be used for hardcover, and 80 ~ 120g offset paper can be used for general technical standards

④ pictures and picture books, generally use 80 ~ 120g offset paper or 100 ~ 128G coated paper; Offset paper or coated paper and gram weight can be selected according to the fine printing degree and size of the album

⑤ New Year pictures and posters generally use 50 ~ 80g single-sided offset paper, comic books use 52 ~ 50g relief paper, and advanced exquisite small pictures use 256g glass cards

⑥ magazines generally use 52 ~ 80g paper, monochrome generally use 60g writing paper or offset paper, and color generally use 80g double edition paper

⑦ covers, inserts and linings of books and magazines: 100 ~ 150g paper is generally used within 200 pages of the cover, and 120 ~ 180g paper is used for more than 200 pages, which has great advantages; 80 ~ 150g paper for inserting pages; The lining page is generally selected between 80 and 150g according to the thickness of the book

for the same kind of paper, the heavier the gram is, the higher the price is. The gram weight of the text paper increases, and the thickness of the spine also thickens. Sometimes, the gram weight and opening number of the cover paper must be adjusted, resulting in a series of questions about the inaction of the durometer, which often increases the paper cost. Carefully select paper materials, but do not cut corners. If you print a fine line version with ordinary paper, the layout will be blurred, all invalid, and cause waste. Another example is that ordinary reading materials can use paper, while books that need to be preserved for a long time cannot use paper that is easy to be weathered

3. Number of pages of books

try to avoid zero pages when assembling editions. Because a book has other parts besides the body, such as four seals, title page, preface, catalogue, copyright page, etc., and each part may use different paper, it is not difficult to round up the total number of pages of the same paper type to a multiple of 4
